Other than its stunning natural beauty above and below water, the Andamans has a unique history. We can assist in organizing travel and sightseeing to other parts of the Andamans.
The Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani (Hindi for black waters), was a colonial prison in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. The prison was used by the British especially to exile political prisoners to the remote archipelago. Many notable dissidents such as Batukeshwar Dutt, Yogendra Shukla and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, among others, were imprisoned here during the struggle for India’s independence. Today, the complex serves as a national memorial monument. They have light and sound shows every evening which are stunning!
Ross Island belongs to the South Andaman administrative district, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The island is situated 3 km (2 mi) east from downtown Port Blair. The historic ruins are a tourist attraction. You get there by a 10-15 minute boat ride. This island is filled with friendly deers and rabbits. They also conduct a light and sound show which is definitely recommended!
Baratang Island is 150 km north of Port Blair. It is a full day trip. You start early at either 3 AM or 6 AM for a convoy that passes through the lush green forest which is inhabited by the Jarawa tribe. If you’re lucky, you can catch a glimpse of the tribals. Once at the end, you take a short boat ride through the mangroves and reach the limestone caves which are considered as a natural wonder. While you’re there, don’t miss out on the mud volcanos! You will be back to Port Blair around 5-5:30 PM.
Havelock Island is one of the most visited islands in the Andamans. A two hour ferry ride away from Port Blair, this island has one of the Asia’s best beaches – Radhanagar beach. It has beautiful beaches with five shades of blue in the waters. With a lot of dive centers, resorts and restaurants, Havelock is very commercial and sees a lot of tourists every year. You will not be able to stay just one night, you’ll definitely want more!
