PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD):

If you want to give scuba a try but are unsure about committing to a full certification course just yet, then sign up for a DSD. We will give you a brief orientation to the equipment, set it up for you, teach you a few basic skills in shallow water and then take you for a closely supervised dive over beautiful coral reef. This entry-level program gives you the chance to experience being and breathing underwater. So sign up for a DSD and experience the sensation of weightlessness other divers talk so much about!

Scuba Diver (SD):

Duration: 2 days
Prerequisites: None
Swimming skills: Required (200-meter free swim + 10-min float)
Min. age: 10 yrs for Junior SD / 15 yrs for SD

For those of you with limited time, the PADI Scuba Diver course introduces you to the basics of Scuba Diving. Participants complete 3 theory modules, 1 day of shallow water skills training and 2 open water dives up to 12 meters , to receive a permanent license that allows you to dive to 12 meters under the supervision of a dive master or instructor. The Scuba Diver certification is valid worldwide and can be upgraded to the PADI Open Water certification at any time. If you have the desire to learn diving but don’t have enough time for it, the Scuba Diver course is a good beginning.
Note – Lacadives recommends that students of diving take the 2-3 extra days to complete the Open Water Course. Our Scuba In The City program now allows you to finish two-thirds of the course material at our Pool Training Facilites in Mumbai and Bangalore so that you can focus on having fun when you get out to our island dive centers.

Open Water Diver (OWD):

Duration: 4 – 5 days

If National Geographic and the Discovery Channel have filled your thoughts with explorations of beautiful coral reef and mysterious shipwrecks then the PADI Open Water Course is your doorway into an incredible new world. Become a certified diver with an internationally recognized license to dive anywhere in the world. This course will teach you the fundamentals of diving through a mixture of theory (5 modules), 2 days of shallow water skills training, equipment orientation and troubleshooting techniques, and 4 open water dives with water skills exercises. The course follows a gradual progression of skill development allowing students to get comfortable in shallow water before practicing skills in an open water environment. The Open Water Diver certification is valid worldwide and does not require renewal.
Note – If you live in Mumbai or Bangalore then join our Scuba In The City program. It allows you to finish the theory and shallow-water skills practice thus leaving more time for you to enjoy the islands when you visit our dive centers to finish your course. Residents of other cities in India can finish their dive theory sessions with Lacadives before coming out to the islands by signing up for the PADI E-learning options.

Adventure Diver (AD):

Duration: 1 – 2 days
Prerequisites: Open Water Diver certification

Now that you have learnt the fundamentals of diving why not explore what the big blue has to offer with the PADI Adventures in Diving program. Under the supervision of our instructors, the three dives of this certification course allow you to safely experience some of diving’s most rewarding specialty activities, while helping you improve your dive skills. Most importantly, you get to choose the dives that interest you. Lacadives offers something for everyone, with options like deep diving, underwater navigation, search and recovery, underwater naturalist, multilevel and computer diving, peak performance buoyancy, underwater photography and night diving. The three electives of the Adventures in Diving program are credited towards the five required dives of the Advanced Open Water course, leaving you just two dives away from your next certification!

Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD):

Duration: 3 – 4 days
Prerequisites: Open Water Diver certification

Max. depth: 18m for Junior AOWD / 30m for AOWD

Under the supervision of our instructors, the five dives of the PADI Advanced Open Water course allow you to confidently go deeper, try different kinds of diving and improve on the skills you learnt in the Open Water course. The Deep dive and Navigation dive are required dives of the AOW course, increasing your maximum depth limit to 30m (18m for Jr. Advanced Divers). The three remaining elective dives can be chosen from the range of dives we offer, like search and recovery, underwater naturalist, multilevel and computer diving, peak performance buoyancy, underwater photography and night diving.

Emergency First Response (EFR):

Duration: 1 – 1.5 days

If you’ve ever wondered how you might help somebody in a first aid emergency situation, the Emergency First Response course will provide you with the basic skills to assist in an emergency until professional medics arrive on the scene.
The EFR course meets PADI Rescue Diver prerequisites, but is a course that we recommend for everybody. The course teaches you the skills required to assist people both on land and in the water giving you the confidence to respond to medical emergencies, and therefore potentially help save a life!

The Emergency First Response course covers:

CPR for adults, children and infants
First aid for adults, children and infants
Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training
Basic Oxygen administration and handling.

Rescue Diver (RD):

Duration: 3 – 4 days

The PADI Rescue Diver course is probably the most challenging and rewarding course you will find in recreational diving. Aside from building your confidence and self-sufficiency in the water, the Rescue Diver course teaches you to look beyond yourself and to be aware of fellow divers. The course, which many claim is the best they have taken, covers topics like self-rescue and diver stress, emergency management and equipment, panicked diver response, in-water rescue breathing protocols, egress (exits) and dive accident scenarios. Our instructors take you through shallow water rescue skills and theory before the final real-life scenario practice in open water. Rescue training makes you a better diver, but more importantly, it can help you save a life!

Master Scuba Diver (MSD):

With 50 logged dives and the PADI Rescue Diver certification MSD participants choose 5 Specialty courses to earn the Master Scuba Diver certification. The specialized training combined with the range of activities involved makes this course a challenging and intensely educative adventure. Lacadives offers specialty ratings in Deep diving, Underwater Navigation, Wreck diving, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Digital Photography and Night diving.

Dive Master (DM):

Duration: 30 days

This course will take you through the process of understanding everything about the camera
aperture, shutter, depth of field, ISO, RAW vs JPEG, principals of refraction, loss of light
and colour in the water and understanding lensing. The course will consist of 4 dives over 2 days.

underwater images and for divers who want to utilise their digital SLR’s underwater and

Duration: 3 days

Prerequisites: PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent)/ Open Water
Diver with a minimum of 10 dives.

As divers we also have a very special connection to the ocean and a heightened sense of commitment towards preserving its fragile ecosystems. This course allows you the unique opportunity not only to learn about coral reef ecology but also gives you the chance to use your dive skills to contribute towards active research and conservation efforts in the Andaman Islands. At the heart of every good conservation program is good research, and across the world scientists and policy makers use data collected by recreational divers to make conservation decisions. We’re delighted to offer the first such course of this kind in India.
You will be diving in the safe hands of Lacadives – India’s oldest running dive center operating for 20 years with an accident-free track record. The course has been designed by ReefWatch Marine Conservation, this country’s only NGO that focuses exclusively on protecting the ocean. The theory and presentations will be conducted at the ReefWatch base by Marine Biologist Nayantara Jain or an ecologist working with the organization.
